Why you should own your domain name
A domain name is your address on the internet. When it is registered in your own name, your website, email and online listings all stay under your control, whoever built or hosts the site for you.
Choosing a good name
- Keep it short, easy to say and easy to spell
- Avoid hyphens and numbers where you can
- Pick an extension your customers will expect, such as .com or .in for India
- Check that the name is free on the social media channels you plan to use
Keep it safe
- Make sure the owner details are yours and the contact email is one you read
- Renew on time. Your account shows the registration date and the next renewal date
- Keep the transfer authorisation (EPP) code private
